Here we are, back again with a small summer update. As most of the NC Dev team is still on summer vacation, gathering up stuff worth showing for a news update is hard. However, to make your wait shorter between each update we have decided to open up a public developer blog where you can come and see some of the stuff the the NC devs are working on behind the scenes. The developer blog will also be a perfect medium for us to get feedback from the community on some of our work, so that we can correct mistakes or include wanted features.
The first thing we want to show you today is the texturing of the Leopard 2 main batte tanks. At the moment you can follow Choff making those small details that is necessary for achieving the most authentic look possible.
Bananskall is currently working on the M113 APC, used by both the Norwegian and Danish army. It will be modelled in several versions; this one is the Danish M113 G3, going through the last faces of modelling.
Back with another update, this time with ingame screen goodness and a competition!
Over the past weeks we have got a lot of questions on the forums about when we are going to release, and we have answered that we are working as hard as we can. However we are now trying to aim at a release in the midst of the summer holiday which has just started. Most of our members won’t have time to work during this period, so we are going to need a month or two after the holidays to get everything ready for a build that we see fit to show off. The build will contain some maps, and most, if not all of the vehicles that have been shown in the updates until now and possibly some more.
Our super, overworked coder Shopkeeper has got some more models working in the game now
First out is the Nansen, which we were supposed to show earlier, but we had some issues to work out first.
Next up is the F-16 for use in the Norwegian and Danish air force. The models were shown with new skins last update, and here two of them are ingame.
Northern Conflict mod logo competition!
Here at NC we felt that the current logo does not represent the theme of our mod, so we are in the works of making a new one. Then we got the idea that this could be a competition for the community. We want you to submit any ideas or finished work of logos and desktop icons. The logo will set the basis for the theme for the menus etc, so your contribution will put a mark in the mod. As well you will compete against the developer’s contributions. The competition will last for as long as we see fit and the winner will be announced in a news update later on.
Winner will besides having their work put in the mod win access to beta testing, have their nick/name in the credits and receive a mug and t-shirt with the winning logo on!
----------------------------------------------------------- The logo must fulfill these criteria’s
1. Must have resolution big enough for use in varied situations, and be scale friendly. That means that it must not loose detail and so forth in different sizes.
2. Versions with and without "Northern Conflict" name
3. Must in some way show the flags of the participating countries in the mod: Denmark, Norway and Sweden and portray them equally. ------------------------------------------------------------ As well, a desktop icon is needed for the new icon. Adding this is not a must, but a plus.
Criteria for desktop icon: must have standard size for desktop icons include abbreviation "NC"
Did you know that Northern Conflict celebrated its birthday recently? In April 2006, some Norwegians started modding a mini-mod to a BF2-movie. That movie has not been released yet, because the development never ended. The mod and crew has grown, and results so far are great. I believe that no one expected NC to become this in April 2006!
Both Sweden and Norway are now receiving their brand new NH Industries NH90 helicopters. Both countries will use the NFH-version (NATO Frigate helicopter). Sweden receives the TTH-version (Tactical Transport Helicopter) too, and Norway might buy some of these in addition to their NFH and Bells. Here they are:
If the jets are supposed to sink the ships in Northern Conflict, they have to use something that will do the job. The Norwegian F-16 anti-ship version will be equipped with the AGM-119 Penguin Anti Ship Missile, developed by Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace. The Swedish counterpart is the RBS-15, developed by Saab Bofors Dynamics. But KNM Fridtjof Nansen will not be sunk easily. It is equipped with 6 RIM-162 ESSMs (Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile) to defend itself against those enemy planes.
The planes in Northern Conflict will be equipped with different configurations of weapons, depending on their role in the battlefield. Our expert modeller, Choff, has made a short movie that shows the development stages of the F-16, from blueprint to skinned model. It includes the finished Danish and Norwegian versions as well. The Saab SK-60 is today used as a recognizance, weather control and trainer aircraft within the Swedish Air Force. In an armed conflict, it might likely be used as a anti-ground aircraft in addition to the Gripen. It is armed with dual 30mm Aden gun pods and eight simultaneously launched Bofors M70 135mm unguided anti-surface rockets. We will include two versions, one with an elongated nose to fit recon cameras inside.
Finally, some ingame screens of the fully working Gripen with its new weapons!
We wanted to show you some more ingame action as well, but unfortunately this has been delayed to the next update. This is a busy time of year and we also got some minor coding problems which we want to fix first. But we promise, NEXT TIME!
